Description
Fridge Guard — UGX 29,000 Against A Compressor Replacement
A fridge guard is the single best-value thing you can buy for any appliance with a compressor in it. It sits between the wall socket and the fridge, watches the incoming voltage, and cuts power the moment that voltage goes outside a safe range. When the supply steadies, it waits a few minutes before switching back on.
We recommend one with almost every fridge, freezer and air conditioner we sell, and we would say the same thing if you bought the guard somewhere else. Twenty-nine thousand shillings against a compressor replacement that runs into the hundreds of thousands is not a close call.
Key features
- Cuts power automatically on low voltage and on high voltage

- Simply plugs in between the socket and the appliance
- No wiring and no electrician required
- Indicator light shows when power is being passed through
- Rated for standard Ugandan domestic supply
- Compact — does not block the neighbouring socket

Why A Fridge Guard Matters More In Uganda Than A Surge Protector
This is the part most people have backwards, so it is worth being clear about.
A surge protector handles spikes — a sudden jump in voltage, usually from lightning or a fault on the line. Useful, and worth having on a television or a computer.
But spikes are not what kills fridges here. Low voltage is. When the supply sags — which happens constantly on a loaded line in Kampala, and far more upcountry — a compressor motor cannot start properly. It draws heavy current trying, overheats, and the windings degrade. Do that a few hundred times over a couple of years and the compressor fails.
A surge protector does nothing about that. It is watching for the opposite problem. A fridge guard watches for both, which is exactly why we push it so hard.
The restart delay
The other half of the job. When power returns after a cut, the pressure inside a compressor has not equalised yet. Switching it straight back on forces it to start against that pressure, which is brutal on the motor. The delay gives it a few minutes to settle. On a day with three or four outages, that feature alone earns its money.
What to fit it to
Anything with a compressor is the priority — every fridge, every freezer, and any air conditioner. Televisions benefit too, though for a TV a decent surge-protected extension covers most of the risk.
One guard per appliance. Do not run two fridges through a single unit — the rating is set for one load and you lose the protection you paid for. For the background on why voltage stability matters to motors, this is a good primer.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a fridge guard in Uganda?
Ours is UGX 29,000, down from UGX 50,000. Cheaper units exist in the arcades, but a fridge guard that fails silently is worse than none at all — you believe you are protected and you are not.
Do I need a fridge guard if I already have a surge protector?
Yes. They solve opposite problems. A surge protector handles voltage spikes; a fridge guard handles low voltage and restart timing, which is what actually kills compressors in Uganda. Many customers run both.
Will it work on my TV or air conditioner?
Yes to both. Anything with a compressor benefits most, so air conditioners are an excellent use. Televisions are protected too, though a surge-protected extension is usually enough for those.
Delivery, Payment And Warranty
We deliver every fridge guard we sell anywhere in Uganda, and it ships easily alongside any other order — most customers add one to a fridge or freezer purchase. Kampala orders placed before midday usually arrive the same day. Pay by mobile money, bank transfer, or cash on delivery inside Kampala.
Buying several for a business or a rental property? Call or WhatsApp +256 702 058341 and ask about trade pricing. We supply landlords in Kampala who fit one to every unit, and it is cheaper than replacing tenants’ fridges.
