Buying home appliances in Uganda is mostly a trust problem. Anyone can quote you a price. Fewer people will tell you that the fridge you are asking about is larger than your family needs, or that the cheap television will not survive your power supply without a protector. This is the advice we give across the counter at our shop in Katwe, written down, so you can decide before you spend.
SM Home Appliances sells home appliances from a shop in Katwe, Kampala. We stock fridges, freezers, televisions, cookers, washing machines, kitchen appliances, air conditioners and phones, and we deliver anywhere in the country. What follows is the advice we give across the counter about buying home appliances, written down, so you can decide before you spend.

Start with size, not with brand
The most common mistake people make when buying home appliances in Uganda is buying bigger than they need. A 190 litre single door fridge suits three to five people shopping weekly. Five to seven, or anyone buying meat in bulk, wants a double door. Above 350 litres you are into large households and small businesses. If you are storing crates of drinks or bulk meat, you do not want a bigger fridge at all, you want a chest freezer, which costs less per litre and holds temperature far longer when the power goes.
The same logic runs through all home appliances in Uganda. An 8kg washing machine run half empty costs you every wash. A 75 inch television in a small sitting room is uncomfortable to watch. Match the home appliances to the household and spend what you saved on quality instead.
Protect everything from the supply
This matters more here than anywhere else and it is the single piece of advice most shops will not give you, because it costs them a sale later. Our electricity supply swings. Compressors, power boards and control panels fail years early because of it, and that failure is not a manufacturing fault, so no warranty will pay for it.
A voltage protector costs about UGX 29,000. It cuts power when voltage goes out of range and waits before restoring it, so the compressor is never restarted under pressure. Fit one to every fridge, freezer, television and air conditioner you own. It is the cheapest insurance available for home appliances in Uganda. On a machine costing several hundred thousand shillings, refusing one makes no sense.
What home appliances in Uganda actually cost
Real home appliances prices from our shelves, so you have something to measure other quotes against. Fridges start around UGX 419,000 for a small single door and run to UGX 1,379,000 for a 328 litre double door. Chest freezers start near UGX 789,000. Televisions run from UGX 349,000 for a 32 inch up to UGX 3,329,000 for a 75 inch QLED. Gas cookers start at UGX 66,000 for a two burner table top and reach UGX 2,139,000 for a 90cm range. Washing machines begin around UGX 549,000.
Home appliances priced dramatically below these figures are either smaller than you were told, refurbished, or carry no real warranty. Ask which of the three it is before you pay.
Delivery, payment and warranty
We move home appliances countrywide. Kampala orders placed before midday usually arrive the same day. Home Appliances in Uganda: Common Questions
Where can I buy home appliances in Uganda?
From our shop in Katwe, Kampala, or from this site. We are a dedicated home appliances retailer, not a general store. We stock fridges, freezers, televisions, cookers, washing machines, kitchen appliances, air conditioners and phones, and we deliver home appliances anywhere in the country.
Do you deliver home appliances outside Kampala?
Yes, we deliver home appliances countrywide. Kampala orders placed before midday usually arrive the same day. Mbarara, Gulu, Mbale, Jinja, Arua and everywhere between go out on the next available run, crated properly for the road. We confirm the cost with you before anything leaves the shop.
What warranty comes with your home appliances?
Every one of our home appliances carries the full manufacturer warranty, and we handle claims ourselves rather than sending you to a call centre. Keep your receipt. The warranty covers manufacturing faults, not surge damage or misuse.
How can I pay?
MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, bank transfer, or cash on delivery inside Kampala. You can also pay cash or by card at the shop when collecting home appliances.
Do I really need a voltage protector?
Yes, and it is the most useful UGX 29,000 you will spend. Our supply swings, and voltage damage is what kills home appliances in Uganda years before their time. It is also not a manufacturing fault, so no warranty will cover it. Fit one to every fridge, freezer, television and air conditioner.
Can I get trade pricing on bulk orders?
If you are fitting out a hotel, bar, rental or shop, call us on +256 702058341. Quantity pricing and payment terms on home appliances are a conversation rather than a checkout button.
What size fridge or washing machine do I need?
Tell us your household size and we will match the home appliances to it rather than upselling you. Most people buy larger home appliances than they need and then pay for the extra space on the meter every month for a decade.
